Summer Associates

**NOTE: SRC is considering only students finishing their first year for its San Francisco 2018 summer program**

At SRC, we believe that you learn best by doing things yourself, not by watching others do them for you. Thus, we seek out smart, dedicated, and resourceful law students interested in gaining hands-on experience to fill our summer program. Our goal during the summer is to give you a realistic glimpse of what it is like to practice at SRC by providing an opportunity to work side-by-side on a variety of client matters with all of the firm’s attorneys. To this end, there is no “make-work” for SRC summer associates—you will perform the tasks of first year associates and we will provide you with training, mentoring, and feedback. Because we focus on doing, SRC summer associates go to court, depositions, investigations, and client meetings with SRC attorneys so that they can experience firsthand the actual practice of law.

This is not to suggest that we are all work and no play at SRC. Each summer we plan several events to make sure that our summer associates get to know SRC’s attorneys on a personal level. We typically try to align our social events with the particular interests of the summer associates and lawyers, but past summer events have included sailing on the Bay, hiking the Marin headlands, a murder mystery dinner, and attending baseball games, lunches, and cocktail parties.

Q.  What is SRC’s hiring criteria?

We look for a strong academic record and excellent writing and communication/interpersonal skills. 

Q.  How long is the summer program?

SRC’s summer program runs for approximately 9 weeks with flexible start and end dates depending on the summer associate’s school schedule.

Q.  Does SRC hire from the summer program?

Because SRC is a small firm, our hiring is need-specific. That said, we have offered full time employment from the summer program and we have also invited 1L’s back for a second summer.

Q.  When are applications considered and hiring decisions made?

We accept application materials beginning in September on a rolling basis until our program is full. Hiring decisions are also made on a rolling basis until the program is full; however, our goal is to have a complete summer program by early March.

Q.  Which SRC offices have summer programs?

Currently, SRC offers summer programs in San Francisco and Phoenix. However, our summer associates work with all lawyers in all offices throughout the summer and all lawyers from all offices attend summer events.
